Why recycle glass with Hogie's Glass Pickup?
Convenience that makes a difference.
Recycling glass is an easy win for the planet! It saves energy, reduces greenhouse gas emissions, and helps conserve natural resources. Recycled glass can be turned into new products and cuts down on waste in landfills.
But Fairfax County residents know that hauling your glass to the designated recycling spots is a hassle. It takes time, it's messy, and half the time, those bins are too full to take your bottles. It's such a pain that plenty of us don't bother recycling glass at all.
With Hogie's Glass Pickup, now you can finally feel good about recycling your glass without the hassle of hauling it and loading it yourself. It's a simple win for you and the earth.

When will my glass be picked up?When you join, within one week you will receive your free bin and pickup schedule. Pickups will be on the same weekday every month - for example, the 1st Wednesday of every month, or for bi-weekly, the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month.
-
Where should I put my glass on pickup days?Single-Family Homes: Place your glass on the curb, just like you would with your other trash and recycling pickup. Townhouses: If you do not have an appropriate curb or driveway, you may leave your glass on your front stoop.
-
What areas do you serve?Right now, we're only serving single-family houses and townhouses in the 22310 zip code. We plan to expand quickly to other Fairfax County neighborhoods. Let us know in the contact form below if you want us to service your neighborhood next!
-
What kind of glass can I recycle? We're mainly looking for your bottles and jars, but all glass types are accepted, as long as they are no larger than the size of your bin. Broken glass and lightbulbs cannot be recycled and should be disposed of in your regular trash can. Glass jars with heavily caked on food residue (think a tomato sauce jar) should be quickly rinsed out before placing in your bin.
-
What happens to my glass after you pick it up?The glass is sorted by color and type, cleaned, and crushed into small pieces called cullet. The cullet is then melted and shaped into new products like bottles, jars, and construction materials. Most importantly, it doesn't end up in a landfill.

How do I pause or cancel my membership or change my pickup frequency?Login and select "My subscriptions" to cancel your plan. To change your plan from monthly to bi-weekly or to pause your plan temporarily, send us a note in the contact form below.

How does your referral program work?Anyone who joins Hogie's Glass Pickup can give you credit for referring them at checkout. All they need to do is give us your first and last name at checkout and we'll automatically credit you a free month of pickups. For bi-weekly members, that means you'll get TWO free pickups, just for sending a friend our way.
Meet Hogie
Hi Neighbor! I'm Andrew Hogan, aka "Hogie." I'm a father to three girls and a life-long Northern Virginia resident. After years of working a corporate job, I was ready for a change. I craved a meaningful way to earn a living that gave back to the community while also getting me away from my desk. I wanted to prove to my girls that, in our family, we value making a difference. But how would I make this a reality...

In conversations with my neighbors, we commiserated about the hassle of having to manually take our glass to the recycle centers. From this sparked my "ah ha" moment and birth of the idea for Hogie's Glass Pickup. I decided to do some further research to ensure there wasn't an alternative and that we were not alone in our frustrations. A few quotes best summarize the themes I started hearing: "It's so hard to find the time;" "I am too old to haul a 20 pound bin around town;" "I get so annoyed with the whole process, especially when the purple bins are full." Others simply admitted that they do not recycle glass at all because of the inconvenience. I found no good alternatives and decided to setup Hogie's Glass Pickup, a simple but reliable glass pickup service designed to ease the burden of recycling glass for my local community. I am really excited about this endeavor and I'm hoping my neighbor's find this service as a breath of fresh air, to recycle without the hassle.
When I'm not picking up glass for my neighbors, you can find me on hikes with my two dogs, with my wife supporting our kids' activities around the neighborhood, or cheering on the Commanders.
